Midrand Cricket Club builds on its inclusivity

MIDRAND – Midrand Cricket Club embraces the inclusion of girls in cricket.

With the end of the cricket season, Midrand Cricket Club looks back at the inclusion of girls in their junior teams.

Chairperson for the club Tshoko Moloko said, “A good season for Midrand Cricket Club can never be rated by the senior team performances but the empowering of youths in their quest to play the game of cricket.

“Apart from boys playing the game they have had stiffer competition from the girl child as junior club cricket has provided a platform of expression.”

He said that this season has seen greater levels of inclusivity with girls playing side by side with the boys bringing greater levels of discipline and commitment to the club.

“Halfway House Primary and Drake Koka Primary schools have been on the forefront of inclusivity as cricket has been opened to all regardless of gender. As the girl child has stood toe to toe with the boys we can only be thankful and optimistic of a better future ahead.

“Without any coaching, it was striking to see the good throwing arms and the natural ability to hit a cricket ball. With all the natural talent we have seen, it has become our imperative to ensure that their potential is realised.”

He said that with this new developments the club is expecting the next season to be a great success.
