Midrand Police Station appeal to residents to obey lockdown regulations

MIDRAND – Midrand Police Station warns residents that action will be taken against them if they do not respect the lockdown regulations.

The Midrand Police Station pleads with community members to respect lockdown regulations.

Spokesperson for the station, Constable Eliot Mabulane, said that residents need to comply with regulations under the National Disaster Management Act set out to help South Africa curb the spread of Covid-19.

He added, “We are appealing with the public to help and work with the police including the Johannesburg Metro Police Department and traffic officers to fight and prevent the spread of Covid-19 by staying in our homes.

“Residents that will be allowed movement are only those seeking medical attention, going out to buy essential groceries or are attending a funeral. However, such persons who allege to be attending a funeral should be in possession of a permit which can be obtained at the nearest police station.”

Mabulane said that people should take note that on the Easter weekend on 10 April, 58 people were arrested for contravening the National Disaster Management Act.

“Two people were arrested for drunken driving and 18 on other crimes which include, fraud, shoplifting, possession of drugs, common assault, malicious damage to property and suspected stolen property.

“Police will continue monitoring and patrolling in Midrand to prevent crimes as many criminals will take chances due to the lockdown. Bottle stores are also monitored. Midrand crime prevention is on high alert to deal with those that are undermining the law and will face the full mighty of the law. Midrand SAPS is doing all it can to ensure the safety of the citizens of this country which is combating preventing and investigating crime,” said Mabulane.

Mabulane concluded that police prioritise the safety of the citizens and make sure that their rights were not being violated by criminals. “Midrand Police Station applauds the community members that keep on working with police and alerting them of crimes happening around the area.”
