Midrand resident donates food parcels to those in need
MIDRAND – The Crossing Church raised much-needed funds to donate 17 food parcels to communities in need.
Local resident Tony Foce donated 17 food parcels to members of the Rabie Ridge community recently.
Tony Foce, who is a member of the Crossing Church, said that the donation was collected through the church’s Mercy Fund which collects donations on a continuous basis to support outreach in the Midrand community. The ongoing projects sees Foce collect funds to make up food parcels for those in need in the community.
He added that they collected 17 food parcels containing onions, potatoes, cabbage, butternut as well as coffee, tea and milk. He said, “We found the most economical way to give nutrition to people and for a family of two it will feed them for the week.”
Foce said that the project was developed to assist those who cannot earn money or buy food during the coronavirus lockdown. “I think people need to have their dignity and need to be fed. This is an unusual time and we’ve never seen something like this in the world. So its good for us, who have the ability to help community who can’t help themselves in these circumstances.”
“I think its also important to keep these communities hopeful.”
Foce teamed up with ARN Security and Ward 132 councillor Annette Deppe who assisted in distributing the food to those in need. Deppe commended the church for the collection and donation. She said, “I am a essential worker and as a councillor I still have to do my job and if that means finding a home for a street child or feeding a waste reclaimer for a day or finding a donation for a family that is in need, that is what I will do.”
