100 families receive food parcels from a local supermarket to help them survive lockdown

IVORY PARK – A local supermarket continues to give back to the community that supports them.

A local supermarket donated 100 food parcels to families from Goniwe section in Ivory Park recently

Sizabantu Supermarket saw it best to give back to the community that has been mutually supportive. Families received 12kg mealie meal, a pack of 2kg sugar, tinned beans and fish, cooking oil and other essential food supplies that should last them for a while.

Sizabantu shop owner Abdisamed Ahmed said he would like to encourage other businesses to join hands and help those in need during the lockdown, “We have to come together as a shop to help those in need. We chose this community as they have been good to us since the beginning of the business in 2012/2013 and we have a strong connection with them.”

Supermarket manager Abdirizak Aden Hassan said they have been helping the community through donations for a while. “We understand that the lockdown affects everyone, especially those who are not generating income hence we decided to assist where we can. Our previous donations were in 2018 where we donated blankets, food, and clothes to orphanages and schools.

Event organiser Busisiwe Mankumta was thrilled to see community members smiling after receiving parcels. “We are very blessed to have businessmen who put their customers first. This lockdown has affected many of us and to see shop owners lending a helping hand shows humanity. It is not their first time donating goods but we are happy they recognised community members during this horrifying experience.”

Sizabantu plans to continue assisting the community by offering donations to and creating employment for Ivory Park residents.
