ICYMI: Wanderers Cricket Club facilitates food drop-off in Ivory Park
IVORY PARK– Local cricket club gives back through the Feed a Cricketer initiative.
Wanderers Cricket Club facilitated the drop-off of 40 food parcels to members of Golden Bells Cricket Development in Ivory Park recently.
This was through an initiative run by Veterans Cricket Association of South Africa called Feed a Cricketer. The association has since organised another drop-off to Ennerdale Cricket Grounds with plans for a drop-off to Swaneville Cricket Club on the drawing board.
“We have had a bit of a partnership with Golden Bells in Ivory Park,” Wanderers Cricket Club chairperson Frank Auger told the Midrand Reporter.
“We have donated cricket equipment there before and done coaching. The veterans association has done a few food drop-offs in Cape Town and they wanted to do some in Gauteng, and through my connection with them we set up their first drop-off in the province.”
The association’s interim chairperson, Roger Moult said this initiative had been very successful and they already have plans to deliver food parcels to 10 cricket clubs in Gauteng.
“So many people are providing for the communities and we decided we needed to look after cricket clubs,” Moult added.”We are trying to get cricket clubs to look after other cricket clubs and the Central Gauteng Lions are now full on board too.”
Moult said donations have come from cricket associations and clubs from as far as the United Kingdom and Australia, and these have empowered the association to help its clubs in need.”These food parcels should supplement what many families have and for some it might be all they have and will feed them for a few weeks.”
