Councillor Mphefo happy with 9th Road progress

NOORDWYK – Ward 112 councillor Lerato Mphefo has expressed excitement at the visible progress on 9th road in Noordwyk.

Ward 112 councillor Lerato Mphefo has expressed excitement regarding the progress on 9th Road in Noordwyk.

Mphefo said, “I cannot wait for the project to be complete and I think I’m speaking for most residents too. We’ve had a lot of water interruptions because of the project, not only has it inconvenienced the nearby residents, it’s also costing City of Johannesburg money to repair every time there’s a burst pipe.”

She added that the initial completion date was expected to be February this year, but due to numerous factors including the Covid-19 pandemic and subsequent lockdown, it had been moved even further with the current completion date set for approximately November.

Mphefo said, “The project manager has applied for extension of time which might be granted and some of the delays now are due to excavation and existing open serve fibre lines which they are currently working around.”

She added that the manager has put through an application to remove existing water pipes and trees in the area which might affect the completion date further along with the possibility of rain.
Although there have been delays, Mphefo said that there is visible progress made on the site, with some paving having been done, visible manholes, and preparations to tar the road.

She concluded, “This road is important for the kids at Noordwyk Primary School, for the houses on this road and is also a solution to flowing traffic on nearby roads in the area.”
