Blue Hills learners show off problem-solving skills

MIDRAND – Reddford House Blue Hills won against two of their sister schools at this year's Inter-Reddford Cognitive Carousal they hosted.

Reddford House Blue Hills used their home-ground advantage to win the Inter-Reddford Cognitive Carousal on 20 October.

The school hosted two of their sister schools, Reddford House Northcliff and Reddford House The Hills. There were 52 learners from each campus who took part in the competition.

Tracy Kurten, marketing personnel at Reddford House Blue Hills said that all schools were represented by learners from Grade 5 to Grade 10. The event tested their abilities to reason, their perception, memory, verbal and mathematical abilities and their problem-solving skills.

“We are extremely proud that Reddford House Blue Hills were the overall winners of the day’s events. We would like to thank all our students who participated at the event for their approach and willingness to work in teams as this has shown them to be true ambassadors to our vibrant school,” she added.

Natalie Pampel, deputy head of Reddford House Blue Hills Senior Preparatory celebrated her school’s win. She said they were absolutely thrilled about the win but not surprised as their learners are constantly exposed to new technology at school. “Our whole approach to learning is centred around ‘higher order thinking’ and developing problem-solving skills within our children.

“We researched worldwide and collaborated with our international network of schools to put together an event that would both challenge and give our students the opportunity to show us what they can do in a competitive setting,” she concluded.
