Midranders encouraged to get active
MIDRAND – Cash Converters Midrand Mall and Klipfontein Cycling Group have partnered to promote cycling while assisting the local community.
Cash Converters at Midrand Mall has formed a partnership with Klipfontein Cycling Group to encourage the local community to get involved in cycling.
The store partnered with Peter Mahlangu, Nkosi Mpofu and Bismarck Sekgota of the cycling group. The group’s goal is to spread their love of the sport that they enjoy so much.
Founder of the group and cycling coach Mahlangu said they started the group after many children had asked them to assist in fixing their bicycles. They now have a membership of 30 children and 12 older riders who participate in weekly cycle rides.
Marketing project manager for Cash Converters, Jeanne-Marie Aucamp said, “Being able to create a passion for sport, and actually for life through cycling is an aim of the Klipfontein Cycling Group.”
Store owner Collin Morris, Mpofu, Mahlangu and Sekgota designed a logo and shirts for the club, and hosted their first community ride on 18 October.
Aucamp said, “Having had a bicycle all his life, Colin has seen the benefits of cycling, which include the camaraderie, friendships made, stress release, fitness, and all this for a sport that doesn’t have to cost too much either.”
As part of the partnership, they would like to help those in need in their local communities by dropping off much-needed food items during community rides.
They are calling on the local community for any donations including food and bicycle spares to make this possible.
