Joburg City Parks and Zoo installs fencing at Anton Hartmann Park

VORNA VALLEY – The Johannesburg City Parks and Zoo has announced that they will be installing a palisade fence around Anton Hartmann Park.

Johannesburg City Parks and Zoo has begun to instal palisade fencing around Anton Hartmann Park in Midrand following complaints of drinking in the park.

Region A manager at City Parks Joseph Ndou said, “After much complaints from residents about Anton Hartmann Park about people illegally parking inside the park, blasting music and drinking, City Parks has decided, with community leaders and councillor Annette Deppe, to instal a 1.8m palisade fencing at a cost of R 153 000.”

He added, “This will assist in making the park safe and easy to control in terms of by-law enforcement.”

Ward 132 councillor Annette Deppe said that for several months the park had been used by people parking inside and drinking which needed to be addressed.

She added that residents also complained about the lack of parking near the park, so she will liaise with the contractor to make sure that the palisade fencing that closes off the park will allow for space for people to park outside.

She said that the park will include a turnstile to monitor the entrance while also being locked at specific times to avoid anyone coming in.

Deppe added that she was happy with the fence which would help secure the park, and that City Parks will be painting the fence around the park green while also painting the existing fence.

Ndou said that their service provider had a setback due to the recent rain in the area. He added that the fencing is expected to be complete and the park will be open to the public by 13 November. He said, “We want to thank councillor Deppe for her support. And working with us for protecting public spaces. Additionally, we will be closing the park at 6pm and opening at 6am. We will be working with the security in the area in order to secure the park.”
