Concern for bumpy road in President Park
PRESIDENT PARK – PR councillor for Ward 110 Nicole Rahn shares some of the issues with the roads in President Park.
PR councillor for Ward 110 Nicole Rahn has expressed her concern for the state of the roads in President Park.
Rahn said, “A lot of Midrand has been dirt road and made up of agricultural holdings but over the years the area has been residentialised with a few residents wanting the roads to remain dirt while others have wanted the roads to be tarred.”
She said that roads in the area have a number of different issues, including high volumes of traffic and reckless driving by taxis on Kruger, Dane and Republic roads which have compounded the issues with the shoulders on the roads broken off. There are numerous potholes and extensive degeneration of the roads.
She added that there had been several requests by the Lory Park Zoo and Owl Sanctuary for tarring to be done on the dirt road going down into the entrance of the park. Owner of the park Eddy van Eck said, “We have lodged numerous requests with Johannesburg Road Agency (JRA) to tar the road, which we know is a tall order for them, so we have also asked for them to grade the road for the time being. But nothing has been done.”
Van Eck added that the biggest problems on the road stem from the absence of concrete gullies at the top of the road where it meets with Kruger Road. When the heavy rains hit the area, the water rushes down the dirt road and gathers right at the foot of the park. He added that they have requested JRA to have the issue resolved for the past two years but to no avail.
Rahn said, “In the last year, there have been serious problems with JRA. The complaints I get regarding the road have been increasing recently.”
She added that she has called on the JRA to fix the road, cutting grass on the sides and generally maintaining the road which include painting of road signs.
Spokesperson for the Johannesburg Road Agency, Mosa Makhalima said that the inquiry had been sent to the relevant depot for a response.
