Ivory Park Police Station welcomes prison sentence

IVORY PARK – Ivory Park Police Station Acting Station Commander Thembekile Ndlovu hopes the family of a murder victim will find peace after sentencing.

Ivory Park Police Acting Station Commander Colonel Thembekazi Ndlovu welcomed the conviction and eight-year prison sentence of an Ivory Park man for murder on 24 November.

According to Ivory Park Police Station spokesperson Captain Bernard Matimulane, the Tembisa Magistrates’ Court sentenced 37-year-old Lebogang Nkosinathi Motloung for the murder of 36-year-old Bafana Phala in April last year.

“The two happened to be in an alcohol-fuelled altercation in Ivory Park Extension 8.

“They had an argument after Motloung wanted to forcefully take a bottle of liquor from the deceased.

“They were familiar with each other and were seen sitting together prior to the fatal argument that followed.

“Owing to the disagreement, the two argued during which Motloung was seen taking out what looked like a sharp object from his pocket and stabbed the deceased once in the neck.”

Matimulane added that Phala was certified dead upon his arrival at the hospital.

Ndlovu concluded, “We hope the family of the deceased will get some form of comfort from this conviction.

“We also congratulate Detective Sergeant Moss Moukangwe, the lead investigator of this case for a job well done.”
