Johannesburg City Parks and Zoo members clean up Rabie Ridge

RABIE RIDGE – Johannesburg City Park and Zoo members held a Blitz Programme, cutting grass and pruning trees in Rabie Ridge to keep the area clean and safe.

Johannesburg City Parks and Zoo embarked on a Blitz Programme in Ward 80, Rabie Ridge on 8 December.

Joseph Ndou of City Parks Region A said the programme had been applied by the utility for some years since its launch by community development MMC Margaret Arnolds. It is aimed at addressing the service delivery backlog regarding the trimming of trees in Johannesburg.

“The reason we visited Ward 80 was to make a maximum positive impact in terms of acceleration of service delivery and to improve the lives of residents in the area by providing a clean and safer environment. As part of the programme, City Parks members did tree pruning and branch collection on Freedom Drive, Falcon Street, Strandloper Road and Stilt Avenue in Rabie Ridge.

“We also did grass cutting around Dr Mathole Motshekga Primary School, Dulcie September Primary School and Allanridge Secondary School including weeding along the Rabie Ridge Social Development facility.”

Ward 80 councillor, Makgoba Pagadi, welcomed City Parks and said, “These areas in the ward with long grass and big trees were being used as places of hiding by criminals while also making the ward look untidy, more especially next to our health and social development facilities, including our community hall, library, schools and main roads.

“I, therefore, would like to thank Joburg City Parks and Zoo for work well done. I am very happy to have such a programme taking place in our ward. I hope soon we will have all municipal-owned entities on board to assist in resolving our service delivery challenges as well.”
