Principal Alex Tau advises the community to celebrate the festive season responsibly

NOORDWYK – Noordwyk Secondary School sends the community a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.

Noordwyk High School’s principal Alex Tau looked back on the year and shared some of his hopes and wishes for the new year.

Tau said being able to pick up the pieces to provide education to their learners after a long lockdown period had been a challenge, but there have been some good results.

“Our Grade 12 learners achieved a 90 per cent pass rate in preliminary examinations despite the extensive lockdown period they had spent without any formal teaching,” he added.

Tau said some of the lows this year were not being able to maximise teaching and intervention.

“Our school is known to use unconventional teaching and support strategies. It is unfortunate that this could not take place this year due to Covid-19 restrictions.

“Having to deviate from our School Improvement Plan due to lockdown, financial constraints has also been a challenge.”

Tau added that after having seen some level of cohesion brought about by Covid-19 challenges, he hoped people would continue working together despite their differences to take their school forward.

“I wish our learners, teachers, parents and the Midrand community at large a very Merry Christmas and a prosperous 2021. Keep safe, always wear your mask, practise social distancing and sanitise regularly. God bless all.”
