Midrand fitness guru on a mission to raise awareness

MIDRAND – Runner Tshepo Malapane ran from Pretoria to Polokwane to raise awareness about cancer in men.

Midrand runner and fitness guru Tshepo Malapane, better known as Crazy T, is a man that prides himself in bringing change through what he knows best – fitness.

He has proved himself a worthy competitor and athlete by taking on many challenges in the past such as taking part in aerobics for sanitary pads and stationery, running 300km, and setting a new Guinness World Record for the most squats in three minutes.

With all this under his belt, Malapane said he was still keen on doing more to bring about social change.

Last year, Malapane ran from Pretoria to Polokwane as a means to bring about cancer awareness. Chatting to Midrand Reporter, the 33-year-old who was raised in Bushbuckridge said he was inspired to run for good causes when he began going through his father’s belongings. His father lost his life to cancer eight years ago.

“The inspiration came after I realised that most men do not take cancer seriously, so I wanted to create an awareness about cancer in general, especially to men as we tend to be very ignorant towards this silent killer. I have lost friends through this killer,” he said.

He hoped that he could encourage others to take care of their bodies. “Start taking a 30-minute walk or jog, drink enough water, get enough sleep and get enough rest.”

In his journey to bring more awareness about social ills and diseases, Malapane said he had already organised his calendar for the year.

“I will be doing a Donate-A-Pad or Contribute R50 initiative. Then, in July, I will be in the Eastern Cape for another initiative… In October we will be having the second annual 300km initiative called CancerMustFall Run from Pretoria to Polokwane.

“For more information on my activities, community members can follow my journey on all social media platforms searching Tshepo Malapane CrazyT.”
