Covid-19: Number of new cases continues to decrease
The number of new cases of Covid-19 reported over the past week has continued to decrease with an average of 1 740 new cases.
The number of Covid-19 cases in South Africa has continued to decrease.
Daily new case numbers this week, according to the Department of Health, have varied from 2 387 on 18 February to 1 102 on 15 February with an average of 1 740 new cases over the last five days. Overall, the number of deaths due to Covid-19 remain high and 887 people have passed away due to the virus in the past five days.
KwaZulu-Natal continues to be the province with the highest number of active cases. As of 18 February, there were over 16 000 active cases in the province. This, however, is a decrease from over 18 000 active cases earlier in the week. The Western Cape has the second-highest number of active cases, with an average of 7 936 active cases. The Eastern Cape has the lowest number of active cases with just over 600 cases on 18 February.
Recoveries now stand at 1 403 214, representing a recovery rate of 93,6 per cent.
