JRA responds to terrible state of roads in President Park

PRESIDENT PARK – The Johannesburg Road Agency responds to the concerns over the state of the roads in President Park.

The Johannesburg Road Agency (JRA) has responded to calls to fix the roads in President Park.

The roads in the area were previously mentioned in the article Concern for bumpy road published in the Midrand Reporter [Week ending 4 December 2020] where PR councillor for Ward 110 Nicole Rahn expressed concern for the state of the roads in the President Park area. This included Swart Drive and Kruger Road which had been riddled with potholes and showed signs of deterioration on the side of the roads.

Additionally, issues surrounding the road leading to the entrance of the Lory Park Zoo and Owl Sanctuary were cause for concern. The zoo had previously requested for work to do be done of the gravel road leading into the zoo.

The JRA said in November last year that it would embark on a programme tackle the ‘war on potholes’ in the City.

Spokesperson for the Johannesburg Road Agency Mosa Makhalima said that the City entity would begin work on some of the roads on 8 February. She said that this will include the gravel road leading to the zoo which is a panhandle and can expect to be graded. Makhalima added, “Swart [Drive] has a lot of potholes. Repairing them is an ongoing process and it will be resurfaced once there is budget available for its resurfacing. Kruger Road needs reconstruction in totality, meaning putting in all necessary infrastructure like storm water drains.”

Makhalima concluded, “For now, the depot will keep on closing potholes until there is budget allocated.”
