Businesses and the community needed to aid non profit
MIDRAND – Sanne Mirk said that community members and businesses could still help them by donating food and medicine vouchers or choosing one item on their wish-list to donate.
With National Child Protection Week beginning on 30 May, Yenzani Children’s Home, based in Noordwyk, has called on community members and businesses to support their organisation.
Sanne Mirk, founder of the non-profit organisation said due to the Covid-19 pandemic they had faced many challenges.
Mirk added that their children and staff have, however, coped very well over the past 13 months. They were doing the best they could with the part-time school schedules and home schooling, and no volunteers or tutors available to assist.
“It has not been easy but we are prevailing due to the strong and positive attitude at Yenzani. From 30 May to 6 June it will be National Child Protection Week, an annual event that highlights the suffering, abuse, violence and struggle of children in South Africa. The pandemic has added to the burdens children already face, considering the increase in Covid-19 cases and the welfare system still continuing to be overwhelmed,” Mirk said.
Mirk said residents and businesses could help by donating food and medicine vouchers (preferably Pick n Pay and Dis-Chem vouchers), winter clothing and financial donations for the general running of Yenzani and welfare of the children.
The Yenzani wish list for National Child Protection Week is as follows:
• Winter clothes and medicine vouchers from Dis-Chem.
• Food and cleaning goods vouchers from Pick n Pay and Alva electric connections heaters (these can also be donated through Builders Warehouse vouchers).
• Roof repairs or a new security gate which will cost R3 500.
• New burglar bars following a recent robbery or paint for their newly raised boundary wall
• New fitted oven and hob or financial donations.
