New partnership helps give the self-employed and job seekers a platform

MIDRAND – The South African United Business Confederation has partnered with Hire Me to boost digital visibility for small to micro and medium enterprises, as well as job seekers in informal and formal sectors.

The South African United Business Confederation, which is based in Vorna Valley, has partnered with an online platform to boost digital visibility for small to micro and medium enterprises (SMMEs), as well as job seekers.

President of the confederation, George Sebulela explained that in working against the backdrop of alarming unemployment statistics, the organisation was proud to announce their engagement in a partnership with Hire Me.

Sebulela said about 7.2 million individuals in South Africa were jobless, with many giving up the job hunt altogether.

He added that the confederation had identified the need for everybody who had something to contribute to the economy to be visible and easy to find on through the Hire Me platform.

“Many township and formal sector SMMEs have been forced to adapt or die in the face of the Covid-19 epidemic, and the slow progress made by government and business in South Africa to actively address the issue has led to a growing sense of hopelessness amongst South Africans.”

He added that marketing ones business and skills was critical for SMMEs to recover lost ground and to ensure sustainability. “HireMe enables the small business community and individuals to have their own ‘mini website’ advertising themselves.”

Jaques Barnard, founding partner of Hire Me, added that their objective was to help as many SMMEs and jobseekers in achieving a decent living through digital empowerment.

Barnard described Hire Me as a digital marketing platform of skills and services and not an employment agency. The platform will enable connections between people and businesses across all sectors and geographical areas in South Africa.

“SMMEs will become key to growing the SA economy, through empowering people with digital tools to market their businesses, a first step has been taken. There might just be light at the end of the tunnel if the formal and informal business sectors put their heads together,” Sebulela concluded.
