More than 1 300 locals have been vaccinated at Midrand Fire Station
MIDRAND – Infections soared in Region A, with numbers climbing from 161 to 453 people testing positive for Covid-19 in the past 10 days.
With Covid-19 numbers skyrocketing around Gauteng and nationally, the Midrand Reporter paid a visit to the Midrand vaccination site, located at Midrand Fire Station, on 25 June.
Nelly Shongwe, Region A Health deputy director, said from 7 to 24 June they had vaccinated 1 338 residents who were 60 or older, and 127 healthcare workers were also vaccinated which brought the total number of vaccinations in the past 18 days to 1 465. She added that on average, 113 residents per day had been vaccinated.

Shongwe said in the past 10 days, infections in the region had soared, from 161 to 453 people testing positive for Covid-19. She added that they could not say when they might finish vaccinating the elderly in the Midrand area, saying that the programme was guided by the National and Provincial Health departments. She said they were beginning to vaccinate teachers as well.

“It should be noted that when people received the first vaccine doses [Pfizer], they were given a pocket-size document with the date of the second vaccine, which gives them a return date of 42 days after the first dose. People should also stick to the regular hand sanitisation and mask-wearing principles.”
