Help fill Botshabelo’s 67 blocks for Mandela Day
MIDRAND – Botshabelo Childrens Home announced on July 2 that they would be celebrating Mandela Day in a whole new way, throughout the whole month.
Botshabelo has announced that this year they would be celebrating Mandela Day in a new way – throughout the whole month.
Jessica Smith, director for fundraising and operations at the centre, said that with the third wave in full swing and the Covid-19 numbers climbing, they will not be able to host their usual ’67 Square Metres’ project on July 18. However, they will be filling 67 digital blocks on their website for donors.
“Any donor that donates to our Mandela Month efforts will get their name on one of the blocks on our website. We hope you will help us fill all 67 blocks and maybe a few times over. We have declared the whole month of July as Mandela Month so you have extra time to plan and participate,” she added.
Smith shared how important the day is to them. “It usually fills our pantry and storerooms with six months’ worth of essentials. You can donate financially and help us cover some of our most basic and necessary costs, as well as funding bigger projects.
“Every little bit helps, so whether a company or a family, we encourage you to partner with us so we can make an even bigger impact during this time.”
Smith added, “Shop and drop off your items. You can donate these items in person by booking a spot with Mosa at admin@botshabelo.co.za. We can host small, five or less, groups and give you a virtual tour of our organisation, masks are required.”
Those that have time to offer, can also volunteer. “Due to the Level 4 lockdown, we do not have any volunteer opportunities but students can still earn passive hours for community service via donations. For every donation, we will fill a block on our website. Follow the journey with us, track the progress, and share with your social media followers, employees, friends, WhatsApp groups, and anyone who will listen.
“Mandela Day is our favourite day of the year, as we get to witness the generosity of our nation coming together to give back. We make our mark, we have some fun and we change lives. This year we get to share that with the world as donations can come from anyone, anywhere, and as we watch the blocks fill up, I believe we will witness the heart of humanity doing some good in these crazy times.”
Donations to the 67 digital blocks programme can be made on www.botshabelo.co.za/mandela-day-donation/ with reference: Mandela and your name.
