Sew seeds of hope
OLIEVENHOUTBOSH – Seed Thru Arts donated 67 pots, all the ingredients to make soup, and blankets for 67 Minutes of kindness for Mandela Day.
A Midrand-based non-profit company put smiles on the faces of 67 children and their parents as part of their Olievenhoutbosch Ukudla Drive campaign held on July 18 for Mandela Day.
School Educational and Environmental Development (Seed) Thru Arts was founded in 2019 by Jamela John Ross and his wife Megan Erasmus to highlight the importance of caring for the environment, one’s surroundings and one’s self.

Ross said for 67 minutes of kindness for Mandela Day, they chose Olievenhoutbosch Primary School to give out 67 pots and all the ingredients to make soup. They also gave each child a blanket to keep them warm. “We had decided to put together this event because of the kids.”

He added, “People are hungry out there because the malls are closed, therefore, this is going to go a long way for these families.”
Ross said they were grateful for the support of donors including Attacq Foundation, Itec Tiyende, Air Products and Jeka Energy. “These are all the donors that came together and put money into our account and then we bought all the necessary things for this to happen.

“We are already really excited about the next ones we are going to do, as we have 50 schools which we have adopted and we are looking at doing this at every school.”
School principal Ellen Dubazane welcomed the Seed team and thanked them for making the day a very special one.

“You have made a mark at the school and it will go a long way. You have made history in the school and this is not something that will be easily forgotten,” Dubazane said.

“We are a part of this community and by you coming in and assisting, you are helping us as a school to take care of our own kids and to take care of our own parents. For that we really really thank you, may God bless you abundantly.”
