Members of the Taxi industry get their Covid-19 jabs
MIDRAND – SA TAXI recently opened their vaccination site's doors to members of the taxi industry in a bit to help the government fight the Covid-19 pandemic.
SA Taxi recently opened their vaccination site to members of the taxi industry in a bid to help the government fight the Covid-19 pandemic.
Investor relations and sustainability manager at SA Taxi Megan Morreira said the opening of the vaccination centre was a significant milestone for both the minibus taxi industry and the South African economy as a whole. “SA Taxi feels privileged to have been one of the first five occupational health sites to have opened in the country,” she said.

“And the reason for this was as a result of a successful private and public partnership. We work continuously with the Department of Health.
“We had their support from the onset, specifically for the minibus taxi industry, because they understood the relevance that the minibus taxi industry plays in the South African economy and how many lives a taxi marshal, driver, operator, patrol marshal and rank marshal touch and come across every day.”

Morreira added that the since the centre opened, they have given more than 3 000 vaccinations and did 200 vaccinations on average per day. “We have seven nurses on site permanently and we are working together with Kaelo Simply Healthcare. They have been instrumental in assisting us with the medical professionals at the site as well as the medical supplies.”
Sihle Makhanya, public relations officer for Faraday Taxi Association said, “We decided that as the executives we would be the first to get vaccinated, then the taxi patrollers would follow, along with the members.

“We have around 1 000 members who will be getting their vaccines as well, then by next week we will have our queue marshals and drivers vaccinated. We want our passengers and communities to see us as an example and see that the same vaccine that has been bad mouthed has no negative effect. If nothing happens to us, then they will know for sure the vaccination was made to help us.”
