Organisation celebrates Midrand frontline workers
MIDRAND – Connect To Feed team celebrates the work and efforts of the frontline workers at Midrand Fire Station vaccination site.
Local non-profit organisation Connect To Feed celebrated frontline workers at Midrand Fire Station vaccination site on September 3 by donating packets filled with snacks for them to indulge in.
The organisation was established last year after the Covid-19 pandemic began and has been helping those less fortunate by donating food parcels or meals. The snack packs included apples, juice, chocolate, a small packet of chips, muffins and a coffee sachet.
Upama Srivastava, founder of the organisation, said as a person who worked in information technology and could work from home during the lockdowns, she felt compelled to give back to the frontline workers who were leading the fight against Covid-19.
Nelly Shongwe, Region A Department of Health deputy director, thanked the Connect To Feed members and said the department and region appreciated their efforts.
She said the fire station was a cold place and the frontline workers could not use heaters as there were oxygen cylinders on-site.
“I really need to salute the staff here because they had to bring in blankets to cover themselves whilst still having to look professional in their uniforms every day,” she added.
Region A Department of Health manager for programmes, Dimakatso Hlatshwayo, also thanked Srivastava and her team. “Our nurses would work extra hours outside our eight-hour shifts in order to make sure that people got vaccinated. The staff will appreciate that there are people who do know how to show gratitude,” she concluded.
