Park-In Experience aims to save the film industry

WATERFALL – Park-In Experience Heritage Month edition set to bring chuckles in the city.

The Heritage Month edition of the Park-In Experience will take place on September 17 and 18 at Mall of Africa.

The lifestyle and outdoor cinema event will feature some of South Africa’s revered local film productions under the ambience of a market feel with live music entertainment. Movie lovers can drive in and watch movies from the comfort of their cars or stretch their legs in a relaxed picnic environment under strict observation of Covid-19 protocols.

The event is the brainchild of two women entrepreneurs, Lerato Maunatlala and Nikiwe Ndaba. “Park-In Experience’s main objective was to reverse the adverse effects of the global coronavirus pandemic on the local film industry,” said Maunatlala.

She added that they did this by honouring licensing fees to showcase movies in public and then created an environment that attracted the public to watch these local films. “This way we’re able to assist film producers to derive revenue and also promote local film talent to South Africans.”

On September 17, Park-In Experience will showcase Between Friends and Paradise Stop. The first, Between Friends is a hilarious take on old varsity friends who reunite seven years later but risk their relationships with old secrets they have of each other.

The crime comedy Paradise Stop features Rapulana Seiphemo and Kenneth Nkosi. It explores the life of an honest cop whose values and morals are put to the test when he finds out that his best friend is behind a string of heists.

The September 18 edition would follow suit with Wonderboy for President, a comedy by John Barker, and Mrs. Right Guy. The Barker film mocks the state of South African politics in which a charismatic and authoritative young man from the Eastern Cape is coerced into running for president by two dubious and corrupt characters.

Maunatlala added that with the seasons changing, it was only right that they matched the jovial mood by showcasing local comic heritage and culture on film. “Patrons are not only guaranteed to share laughter and chuckles during the showcases but also an evening of entertainment suited for date night, family outings or a friend’s night out.”
