‘Taxipreneurs’ take home new vehicles and R10 000

MIDRAND – One taxi winner, Abel Msiza, said that his taxi was going to work as soon as it got home.

Ten lucky ‘taxipreneurs’ were awarded R10 000 cash cheques while two of those 10 customers each won a taxi, courtesy of SA Taxi’s Win A Taxi competition that took place on September 23.

SA Taxi chief communications executive Maroba Maduma said they knew the industry experienced difficulties like any other business.

“With the lockdowns that were happening last year, in understanding that most of our clients tried to make payments and get their instalments up to date, some of them fell behind and some of them managed to pay them off,” he said.

Maduma added that to help the industry, they picked 10 customers who were making an effort and put them into a draw to win R10 000. Two out of the 10 participants won a taxi to grow their business.

Excited to win a cheque amounting to R10 000 and add one more taxi to his fleet of 18 taxis, Abel Msiza, who has been in the taxi business for over 42 years, said he was lost for words.

“This will bring a big change to our family business. SA Taxi has assisted me in a huge way. I was able to buy plots and shops using my taxi business’s profits. This is why I have always made sure that I paid my taxi’s instalments on time,” said Msiza.

Anna Choma, a R10 000 cheque recipient, said that she felt good even though she did not win a taxi. “It is better than leaving [with] nothing. SA Taxi has proved that they will always take care of us.”
