Danny Vermeulen, transformation manager at Attacq said the celebration of this year’s World Food Day (October 16) had already started across the globe.
He said invested establishments have committed themselves to work towards a vision to end hunger and promote nutritious food globally. He added that they would provide meals to three centres, namely Christine Early Childhood Centre, Elewani Creche and Pre School in Ivory Park and Malibongwe Day Care in Ebony Park.
Vermeulen said according to last year’s Independent Polling System Of Society study conducted on behalf of the Centre for Social Development in Africa, large numbers of people were suffering from long-term hunger, with 46% of South African households going hungry daily.
“One of the most devastating unintended consequences of the response to the Covid-19 pandemic in South Africa, is the acceleration of food insecurity. Attacq is invested in supporting our people and our communities.
“Through this activation, we are not only donating food… but also providing a coordinated national event across all our retail-experience hubs where we have committed to packing 90 000 meals for those in need. We need everyone’s help South Africa,” he concluded.
