Meals of love
MIDRAND – Chairman for Food For Life Midrand branch, Vinesh Maharaj said that the organisation wanted to reach their target of feeding 400 thousand people for this year.
Local non-profit organisation Food For Life provided meals for 1 200 people on October 3 in the Midrand townships as part of their Sunday Feeding initiative.

The team visited six locations including Tumelo Home for the Disabled, Ivory Park Region 2 offices, and New Jerusalem Children’s Home, where they provided food for young and old.

Chairperson for Food For Life Midrand branch, Vinesh Maharaj said this year they had provided

287 113 meals and their target was 400 000. “The need is insatiable because we have got so much disparity in our country, so that is what we are trying to address. The more funding we get, the more we can help,” Maharaj added.

“Luckily, now we got additional funding which is why we can expand our 7 000 meals a week. However, the more capacity we can have with regards to resources, the more people we can reach.”

Sydney Brown, a representative for local non-profit organisation Bantu Bambanani which organises meals for the less fortunate at the Ivory Park Region 2 centre in conjunction with Food For Life, said the impact Food For Life had

was huge. “People really appreciate the food, they are grateful for it and it is just amazing to see what Food For Life is doing for the community.”

“They make sure that people go to bed on a full stomach, which is the most important thing. They wake up knowing that at least there is somewhere they can go and get something to eat.”
