Midranders open up about their mental health knowledge.

MIDRAND – Midrand community members shared their honest opinion on whether they knew enough about mental health as an illness.

In celebration of Mental Health Awareness Month this October, an initiative that was declared by the government, Midrand Reporter reached out to some community members to find out if they were well informed about mental health, and if it was something they took seriously.

This is what they had to say…

ANDREW WRIGHT: I am not well informed but I do take it really seriously. Depression is a silent killer. We don’t see it until there is a suicide or a problem that presents itself.
TSHEPO MASHABA: I [read and] try to understand as much [as I can] so I don’t dismiss someone because they say they have depression. It is something serious.
SELA SEGALE: I understand it with my own understanding. I do not have any teachings about mental health issues, however, it is something that I take very seriously.
