Nizamiye Primary and High School reflect on events from this year

HALFWAY HOUSE – Nizamiye Primary and High School shared some of their highlights this year, one being the Minister of Basic Education Angie Motshekga's visit among others.

Nizamiye Primary and High School looked back on some of the events that stood out this year for them.

School principal, Ramzi Hasanli said just like everyone, most of their challenges emanated from Covid-19.

Ramzi added school started in the second wave of the pandemic and now the year ends with the fourth wave.

“This caused a lot of disruption for our education because we had to do hybrid learning and with the learners in and out of school there was a lot of instability with having that reconnection with the school and learners,” he said.

“That caused a big challenge for parents as well.”

Ramzi revealed that the school had to deal with an outbreak of Covid-19 among teachers and learners, and it all had its impact, forcing them to make adjustments.

On a lighter note, he said there were positive things to look back on that had made the school proud.

“Our head boy, a Grade 12 learner was selected among top three learners in Gauteng in the National Computer Olympiad.

“After producing great results he managed to get a scholarship to the University of Cape Town to study computer sciences. Another one of our Grade 5 learners was called by a Spanish football club, Malaga Football Club, to go for trials in Spain.”

He said a huge highlight was when the Minister for Basic Education, Angie Motshekga, visited the learners to encourage them prior to their exams.

“She gave learners motivation which was very important.”
