Learners pleased with matric results

Learners of the Independent Examinations Board's matric Class of 2021 received their matric results on January 18, while those who took the National Senior Certificate got to see if their hard work had paid off on January 21.

At 07:00 on January 21, the matrics of Midrand High School gathered at the school gate, anxiously waiting for their results.

One of the learners Thuma Mahlangu who was accompanied by his friend Thabang Seufane, said he was anxious in the weeks before the results came out.

“I was just expecting the best while I was also preparing for the worst,” Thuma said.

The matrics achieved a pass rate of 95% and a bachelor’s degree pass rate of 61%. Tyron Naidoo was the school’s top achiever with six distinctions, followed by his friend Teval Dueru who bagged five distinctions.

Shunmugam Govender, the physical science teacher at Midrand High, said he was proud of his Class of 2021 and extremely so of Teval who scored 90% in the subject.

After collecting their results, each learner was given career counseling by Tumi Maleka, a customer relationship manager with Enduvos Private Institution.

Con Purchase, the school principal, said the school was proud of their matrics despite the challenges the learners faced with Covid-19 and the introduction of online learning, which learners took time to grasp.
