Local foundation gives back

LEEUWKOP – After formally being registered, the Sello Foundation visited six schools to which they donated 120 school shoes and sanitary pads.

Sello Lemao Foundation resumed their back to school programme on January 24, visiting six schools to hand over 1 300 sanitary pads and 120 school shoes to learners.

The schools chosen on the day were Kaalfontein Secondary and Primary, Tsosoloso Secondary, Mayibuye Secondary, Sefikeng Primary, and Allanridge Secondary School.

The founder, Sello Lemao, a former teacher turned politician, activist, community leader, and now philanthropist said as an active citizen in the community, his foundation aimed to support young people, particularly, learners to get educated without any hindrances.

Lemao said since donating 100 school shoes in 2016 to disadvantaged learners of Dr Mathole Motshekga Primary school, he had registered the foundation this year so he could continue to support young people.

“These [current] donations we provided were the first part of our programme done under the registered Sello Lemao Foundation. Donating sanitary pads and school shoes will help maintain the children’s dignity and morale while at school.

“No child must miss class because they are on their periods. No child should suffer mockery from others or get embarrassed because they don’t have a proper school uniform,” said Lemao.

Lemao concluded that in supporting young people they hoped to secure the future of the country.
