Metro police officers continue to ensure the safety of drivers and pedestrians

Spokesperson of the metro police Officer Xolani Fihla assures the public that the organisation will work hard in promoting road safety campaigns after seeing an increase in road fatalities.

With the adjustment of the new year, members of the metro police have identified key challenges that individuals face on a daily basis while sharing solutions which will promote the safety of others throughout 2023.

Spokesperson of the metro police Officer Xolani Fihla said, “One of our biggest issues that are hindering us from ensuring the safety of everyone is the presence of load-shedding. Its impact on traffic lights and traffic congestion has led to an influx of unauthorised people controlling traffic, illegal dumping and also the illegal occupation of land which we are working countless hours to eradicate.”

According to the officer, the main goal of the year is to further prevent crimes from occurring in Gauteng through crime prevention campaigns, traffic management and through by-law enforcement.

“Our primary goal is to preserve road safety by working to cut down on road fatalities. The organisation has seen an increase in pedestrian fatalities. Everyone who uses the road must have responsibility for road safety and not just law enforcement.”

In closing, Fihla assured the public that the metro police will be working closely with other law enforcement agencies, city departments, private security companies and community policing forums to ensure that roads are safe for both drivers and pedestrians.
