Naledi Phiri speaks how beauty can be a powerful tool for positive transformation

After winning Miss Philly’s Game 2023 the Rabie Ridge model now sets her eyes on the Miss Royal Regent SA.

Miss Philly’s Game 2023 queen Naledi Phiri is on track to earn another prestigious modelling title, having recently become a finalist in Miss Royal Regent SA.

At just 20, this talented young woman from Rabie Ridge Ext 2 offers a unique perspective in the modelling industry. Phiri believes her relatability distinguishes her from many other models, as she embodies a less common quality that makes her presence compelling.

Her modelling career was sparked by her experiences and a desire that goes beyond aesthetics. Inspired by the belief that modelling can provide platforms for personal growth and inspiration, Phiri, a former learner of Dulcie September Primary and Allanridge Secondary schools, understands the impact of her role.

Winning is familiar to her, as she gained recognition as the first runner-up in the Miss Rovers 2023 competition, which opened doors for her. However, her big break came with her title of Miss Philly’s Game 2023, significantly enhancing her visibility in the industry and providing invaluable exposure.

“One of my most unforgettable experiences was being interviewed by DStv and other media outlets during the Philly’s Game launch event for their soccer tournament,” she recalled.

Beyond modelling, Phiri actively contributes to her community, recognised as a young advocate for social responsibility. As one of the best netball players in her area, she also enjoys the unwavering support of her large family, which includes seven siblings.

Though she has not formalised an organisation, Phiri has mobilised a group of like-minded girls to regularly organise monthly initiatives, distributing sanitary products to schoolgirls, donating clothing to orphanages, and volunteering at homes for individuals with disabilities.

“I am particularly passionate about addressing economic and educational issues. I believe everyone has the right to education and no one should face poverty. This motivates me to donate to schools and homes supporting underprivileged individuals.”

With another modelling competition approaching, Phiri is committed to evolving into a well-educated model while continuing her community service and building her brand.

“Participating in Miss Royal Regent SA and other esteemed pageants not only celebrates the diverse talents of young women but also empowers them to use their gifts for the greater good.”

To aspiring models she advised, “Know who you are, understand what you stand for, and always believe in yourself. Avoid comparing your journey to others, we all have unique purposes. If you’re passionate about what you do, don’t give up.”
