The Residents association's Neels Conradie said residents complained about power and water outages affecting their suburb.
The annual general meeting (AGM) of the Vorna Valley Residents’ Association (VVRA) proved to be a resounding success, showcasing the resilience and commitment of the local community.
Despite the chilly evening, residents turned out to participate in discussions shaping the future of their neighbourhood at The Swiss Club on June 12.
Chairperson Neels Conradie opened the evening with a comprehensive report on the association’s financials and the achievements of the past year.

His transparent and informative update was well received, highlighting the association’s consistent efforts to address key community concerns.
“It was unanimously agreed that the VVRA will transition from a non-profit organisation (NPO) to a non-profit company (NPC), to register as a public benefit organisation (PBO),” said Conradie.
He said this change brought significant advantages for the association and the community it served.
As a PBO, VVRA will be better positioned to receive tax-deductible donations, apply for grant funding, and expand its capacity to undertake projects that benefit the broader community.

Further updates will be shared with residents as the transition process progresses.
“The meeting also marked the opening of nominations for new committee members, with the election of the incoming executive team for the upcoming term to take place. This process ensures continued community representation and fresh perspectives in the leadership.”
He said important issues raised during the evening included the recent spate of water and electricity outages.
Residents expressed concern, and the incoming committee has committed to prioritising stronger engagement with service providers to ensure more reliable infrastructure and communication moving forward.
