City Power confirms power supply restoration in Mayibuye township
City Power spokesperson Isaac Mangena warned Mayibuye residents that any act of threats and intimidation to their technicians will result in power cuts again.
City Power spokesperson Isaac Mangena confirmed on July 8 that power supply had been restored to customers in Mayibuye.
This follows two protests by disgruntled residents over power cuts on June 25 and June 30.

Mangena said the power supply was restored on July 4 following extensive engagements between
The management of the Midrand Service Delivery Centre (SDC), community leaders, and other relevant stakeholders.
“To give you background, June 29, City Power was regrettably forced to suspend services in Mayibuye after our technicians were held hostage and threatened while conducting legitimate
maintenance work. Part of our work was to also audit meters, as we realised that the area of Mayibuye is no longer buying electricity as much as it was supposed to,” said Mangena.
He said City Power remains firm in its commitment to protecting its staff, and it will not allow threats, intimidation, or unlawful behaviour to hinder its work.
“Any attempt to interfere with electricity infrastructure is not only dangerous but also a criminal
offence. Since then, constructive discussions with the community have enabled us to safely resume operations and restore electricity,” added Mangena.
He reiterated that while the power has been restored, a full audit of meters in the area will still be conducted.
“And any further acts of sabotage or intimidation will lead to similar action in the future,” concluded Mangena.
