The IIE’s Varsity College Waterfall campus reflects on 2025 as it steps confidently into its Emeris future

As The IIE's Varsity College transitions into Emeris, the Waterfall campus reflects on a year defined by progress, unity, and future-focused innovation.

As 2025 draws to a close, The IIE’s Varsity College Waterfall campus – soon to become part of Emeris – looks back with pride on a year marked by growth, innovation, and a strengthening sense of community.

Campus head Avadhi Ghela said the year’s achievements were shaped by the commitment of both staff and students. “Developing a strong sense of community has been evident throughout the year, and we remain positive about what lies ahead.”

Despite a busy year that saw the unification of The IIE’s Varsity College, IIE MSA, IIE HSM, and IIE-Vega School under the new Emeris name, the Waterfall campus pushed ahead with several key initiatives.

Guided by values of person-centricity, collaboration, and real-world impact, the campus introduced three major additions: A new moot court for law students, a collaboratorium for the faculty of education, and The Hive, an innovation hub for computer science students. All three facilities were designed to enhance hands-on learning and boost graduate employability.

The campus also celebrated strong results in the legal field, with 31 students entering the national moot court preliminaries, and Waterfall ultimately winning the competition. Earlier in the year, the campus joined Sandton and IIE MSA in opening the IIE Community Law Clinic in Randburg, which has already managed 100 cases. 41 Waterfall final-year LLB students completed work integrated learning at the clinic.

The faculty of education also rolled out new academic initiatives, and plans to expand its community outreach programmes in 2026.

Community engagement remained a highlight, with students raising R2 300 for Reach for a Dream’s slipper day, and collecting clothing, food, and toiletries for the Life4U Foundation on Mandela Day.

Looking ahead, the campus announced the launch of its new student accommodation in Midrand, dedicated exclusively to Emeris Waterfall students. Ghela said the space is envisioned as a place where students can settle in, build lifelong friendships, and enjoy a full, connected student experience.

She thanked staff and students for their commitment throughout 2025. “I wish my team, our students, and their families a safe and wonderful festive season. We return in the New Year ready and excited to welcome our new and returning students to the family we call Emeris Waterfall.”
