Operation Restore rolls into Ivory Park

Ward councillors and community members gathered at the corner of Riverside and Limpopo roads as Operation Restore kicked off a multi-ward infrastructure drive aimed at improving accessibility and road safety.

Operation Restore made a significant entry into Region A, specifically in Ivory Park, on February 18.

Key figures, including MMC for Transport Kenny Kunene, regional director Makgafela Thaba, and local ward councillors, gathered at the intersection of Riverside and Limpopo roads to launch the operation and outline the planned activities.

This initiative will focus on wards 133, 77, 78, 110, 92, 111, 112, and 132. Planned activities include repairing Riverside Road, installing subsurface drainage on June Road to improve storm water management, establishing pedestrian crossings, and addressing concerns on Belvedere Road, among other issues.

“I have seen the criticism surrounding Johannesburg Roads Agency (JRA) in various parts of the region and from community members,” said Thaba.

“However, after meeting with the councillors from Region 2 last week, I recognise the number of issues they are concerned about. Despite this, it is clear that we are successfully implementing this programme. JRA is performing admirably in the region, and we genuinely appreciate the substantial efforts being made on the ground.”

Councillors also highlighted pressing issues within their wards, including Teboho Marumo, who represents Ward 133, and Yoliswa Twala from Ward 77, among others.

Operation Restore, also known as #OperationLungisa, #OperationLokisa, or #OperationHerstel, is a vigorous road maintenance and infrastructure repair campaign led by Kunene in collaboration with JRA.

This initiative aims to address challenges by clearing storm water systems, repairing potholes, conducting deep patching, and refreshing road markings to significantly enhance safety and accessibility across the various regions.
