Southeast Midrand Suburban Alliance to boost safety initiatives, including community cameras

SeMSA chairperson Kobashan Naidoo said they are also expanding their communication platforms to include more targeted and effective tools for residents.

In a bid to ensure that residents remain safe in 2025, the Southeast Midrand Suburban Alliance (SeMSA) chairperson Kobashan Naidoo said they will embark on various community initiatives aimed at tackling crime.

SeMSA, previously the President Park Residents Association falls under the Sector 1 Crime Forum, which is under the mother body, the Midrand Community Policing Forum (CPF).

He said increasing safety measures, and other community initiatives will enhance the quality of life in President Park, Austin View, Glen Austin Ext 3, and Midrand as a whole.

“Increasing safety initiatives includes the deployment of additional community cameras and more robust crime-fighting strategies. Strengthening partnerships with Midrand police, Johannesburg Metro Police Department, CPF, and municipal entities. This will help improve service delivery across critical areas like community safety, land invasion, by-law enforcement, water, electricity, and road maintenance,” said Naidoo.

Austin View has been plagued by land invasions which involved a series of back-and-forth evictions between authorities and the land invaders.

He said they will also be launching educational programmes for residents on municipal processes and community safety to foster greater awareness and engagement.

He further thanked Ward 110 councillor Angelina ‘Angie’ Mphaho and her ward committee members for their support.
