Local ANC branch donates school shoes and sanitary pads to Noordwyk Primary
Community leader and branch chairperson Marvin Maphiri said the sanitary towels, shoes, and sports balls were welcomed by the young learners, as they called on the education department to fast-track the development of classrooms at the school.

After noticing a shortage of various items at Noordwyk Primary School, the ANC Liliesleaf Farm Ward 112 branch donated 60 packs of sanitary towels.
Branch chairperson and community leader Marvin Maphiri said they donated a further 40 pairs of school shoes, and three balls, two for soccer and one for rugby.
He said the teachers were then blessed with scrumptious muffins on February 4.
Maphiri said the aim was to uplift and empower the young learners while ensuring that they invest in their education. “We realised that some learners did not have shoes during the first time we visited the school in January as part of school readiness observation. We also noted that infrastructure [container classrooms] remains a concern including the extramural activities. The beneficiaries, who were identified by educators, were happy, with endless smiles and appreciation,” said Maphiri.

Regarding infrastructure, Maphiri urged the Department of Education to fast-track the development of classrooms as the childhood development phase is key to the upbringing of the learners.
Deputy principal Norah Risana Ngobeni said the branch came voluntarily for the donations and subsequently arrangements for when to come.
“Learners without school shoes are the ones who benefited from the donations. The learners were from Grades R to 7, and were physically identified by going class-to-class,” said Ngobeni.
