Acting Midrand station commander says crime is slowly subsiding, urges Sector Forums to increase patrols
Colonel Hosea Mantji, acting station commander of the Midrand Police, pleaded with parents to guard their teenage children, who Mantji said are drinking and roaming the streets.
Acting station commander of the Midrand Police Colonel Hosea Mantji says crime is going down in their policing precinct, despite a crime surge scare in January.
He said this during the Midrand Community Policing Forum (CPF) meeting on February 19, where he also urged parents to ensure that they safeguard their teenagers.
The boardroom was packed with community members who came in their numbers to the first meeting of the year.
Mantji also pleaded with the community members to report any crime they see, so that police can probe and make arrests if possible.
“My humble request to [community members], please report any issues to my office. My office is always open for the community members. If you report those challenging issues, I will ensure that our officers get to the bottom of them,” said Mantji.
He said they were challenged by teenage children, drinking and roaming the streets at night, being prone to possible muggings.
“I think, as parents, we also need to ensure that we safeguard our teenage children,” added Mantji.
He urged the five Sector Crime Forums to increase operations and patrols.
