City of Johannesburg repairs collapsed Rabie Ridge Stadium wall after years of residents complaints
It was alleged that the wall had been vandalized by some community members, during a series of strikes that occurred several years ago, but whatever the cause of the damage it is now being fixed.
After years of issues with the Rabie Ridge Stadium’s collapsed wall, the City of Johannesburg (CoJ) has finally addressed the problem, much to the relief of sports enthusiasts and local residents utilising the facility.

The community, including the Rabie Ridge Residents Association, has repeatedly reported the damaged wall to the city. In the past, it was alleged that the wall had been vandalized by some community members, during a series of strikes that occurred several years ago.
Calvin Bantham, a resident, previously expressed skepticism about the allegations, stating that it seemed unlikely community members would vandalize infrastructure that ultimately benefits them.

Despite the ongoing concerns, the city’s response was delayed for years. However, on March 19, the CoJ announced, through their social media channels, that they have begun repairs on the stadium wall.
“The CoJ is currently undertaking repairs to the Rabie Ridge Stadium wall. We would also like to remind all to respect and protect public facilities. Please take ownership of these spaces and help prevent vandalism,” reads the city’s announcement.
