Varsity College Waterfall alumni’s journey from student to educator

His story continues to inspire many, affirming that with passion and dedication, one can indeed contribute to building a more equitable and vibrant future for South Africa.

Karabo Ramoshaba, an alumnus of IIE’s Varsity College Waterfalls campus, exemplifies how dedication and passion can transform lives.

Graduating as the top student in the Bachelor of Education in Intermediate Phase Teaching Class of 2024 with an impressive overall average of 92%, Ramoshaba’s journey from student to educator is truly inspiring.

During his teaching practicum last year, Ramoshaba’s innovative approach and ability to engage learners earned him a position at Shangri-La Academy. He now serves as the head of mathematics, as well as a choir conductor and soccer coach.

“I was given this opportunity because of the passion and dedication I demonstrated during my teaching experience. I continue to enjoy working with learners and colleagues who share my enthusiasm for education,” he shared.

Ramoshaba’s academic achievements and career success serve as a beacon of hope for aspiring students. “I am very proud and grateful that my hard work is truly paying off. It’s still a bit hard to believe that I have managed to be a top achiever for five consecutive years, but I believe everything happens for a reason.”

His journey is particularly remarkable given that he grew up with a single parent. His motivation is rooted in a promise he made to his late father, who inspired him to give his all. “My father once told me to do everything with all my heart and to break records like never before. I carry that advice with me every day.”

Ramoshaba is also deeply grateful for the support of his lecturers, whom he describes as his pillars of support. Additionally, his passion for transforming education has been his guiding light, as he believes that education can be a powerful tool for change.

“My studies helped me understand the deep inequalities in our education system and the importance of passionate, creative teachers. I’ve come to realise that quality education requires dedication and innovation, especially in a country working to address past injustices.”
