City Power works around the clock to audit Mayibuye residents’ meters

Spokesperson Isaac Mangena said they were concerned that only a few people in Mayibuye were buying electricity, but promised to work with the community.

City Power’s Midrand Service Delivery Centre (SDC) says they have begun conducting
meter audits in Mayibuye.

City power spokesperson Isaac Mangena said they started on July 7, and if the process proceeds without disruption, they anticipate completion by the end of the week (July 11).

“Thus far, our technicians have been able to carry out their work without any interference since the resumption of services in the previous week,” said Mangena.

He said that since the normalisation process, which was completed in December 2023, significant progress has been made.

“These include the replacement and securing of pillar boxes and mini substations, the closing of trenches that pose a significant risk to the members of the community, as well as the repair of streetlights in the area,” he added.

Mangena said regrettably, it must be noted that of the 1 711 meters installed in Mayibuye in 2023, only 500 are currently vending legitimately.

Mangena concluded that this was concerning; however, City Power remains committed to resolving any issues raised and will continue to engage openly and constructively with community leaders.
