Reddam House Waterfall netball trio gets SA national team call-up

Nicole Weyers, Imitha Mdaka, and Refentse Scott have been named in South African squads for the upcoming international competitions.

Reddam House Waterfall celebrated an unprecedented sporting triumph after three of its netball talents were named in South African squads for upcoming international competitions.

Nicole Weyers (15), a goal shooter, or goal attacker, Imitha Mdaka (16), a goal defender, and Refentse Scott (16), a goalkeeper, have been rightfully rewarded for seasons of outstanding play and commitment.
Although Reddam House Waterfall currently offers only outdoor netball, Nicole and Refentse represented their province in the U23 indoor inter-provincials in Gauteng earlier this year.

Both girls then travelled to Cape Town for the U16 indoor inter-provincials, impressing the U19 mixed indoor netball team coach, which resulted in an invitation to try out for the SA U19 training squad.
From an original field of 80 players, only 20 made the South African U19 mixed squad. The pair will now contest final trials for the Indoor Netball World Cup 2026.

Imitha, on the other hand, has earned her place in the national U16 outdoor team and will proudly represent South Africa at the Confederation of Schools Sports Association of Southern Africa (COSSASA) Games in Eswatini from August 24–28. Competing against approximately 280 learners for just 12 spots at the outdoor provincial trials highlights the magnitude of her accomplishment.

Quinton Pascoe, executive head of Reddam House Waterfall, emphasised the significance of this achievement, stating: “Having three South African athletes in one cohort is a first for our school, and a ringing endorsement of the depth of our netball programme. Nicole, Refentse, and Imitha are hardworking, passionate, and humble. They lead by example, on and off the court, and we could not be prouder.”

Reece Prinsloo, director of sport at Reddam House Waterfall, reinforced this sentiment, affirming: “These athletes lead by example, on and off the court.”

Guiding these talented athletes is former national indoor player Xolani Nyamanda, who heads the coaching team at Reddam, overseeing players from U9 through to matric.

The programme’s comprehensive approach – marrying strength and conditioning, nutrition, and sports psychology – is overseen by X Factor Netball Development.

“Athletes are encouraged to take ownership,” Nyamanda explained. “These three are first at training, last to leave, and constantly rally their teammates on WhatsApp. The juniors see that and want to emulate it.”
Up next for Imitha is the COSSASA Games in Eswatini from August 24–28, while Nicole and Refentse gear up for the Gauteng and Tshwane Premier Leagues spanning September to November.

The spotlight will then shift to the 2026 Indoor Netball World Cup in South Africa, with the final U19 squad to be announced soon.
