Midland International School learner inspires learners as student teacher

Declan Mannar believes he can make his mark in teaching as he makes a return to his former school as a student teacher.

Midland International School, formerly Midland Primary and High School, in Crowthorne AH, is celebrating the return of Declan Mannar as a student teacher.

Mannar said that this is a proud and inspiring milestones, to complete his practical training at his alma mater.

Mannar, who completed his matric at the school in 2023, has come full circle, choosing his alma mater as the place to gain valuable classroom experience.

He said certain things in life are destined to be, and he feels like his teaching career will be one of them.

“From being on the verge of expulsion to becoming head boy, I hope my story inspires others.

My goal is to change as many lives as possible, and I believe I can make my mark in teaching. It is never too late for a learner to turn things around – sometimes all they need is someone to believe in them. I want to be that person.”

School principal Sharira Padayachy expressed her pride in Mannar’s journey, saying his growth into a young leader, and aspiring educator, inspires both learners and staff alike.

“Watching Declan return to our school as a student teacher is a moment of immense pride, not just for me, but for our entire school community.

His story is a powerful testimony to our motto: Learn, Inspire, Achieve. Declan has embraced each of these values.”

Ray Thenga, marketing manager, praised Mannar’s return, saying: “It is inspiring to see former learners come back as student teachers. Declan’s journey is a true reflection of the school’s commitment to success and quality education.”

Thenga said the school remains proud of Mannar’s growth and looks forward to the impact he will make as he embarks on his teaching career.
