Midrand’s heartbeat of compassion shone bright as New Jerusalem Children’s Home and Orange Babies Montessori Preschool hosted their milestone annual AGMs.

The event took place at the Gallagher Convention Centre, featuring the 19th AGM for the home, followed by the 14th AGM for Orange Babies. It celebrated another milestone in the shared mission of the organisations to nurture, educate, and transform the lives of children and youth in South Africa.

Guests were welcomed by a vibrant mural screen showcasing highlights from the past year, setting the tone for a day of reflection, gratitude, and renewed commitment. Among the distinguished guests were Miss Face of Beauty Tembisa models and representatives from the Russian Embassy, underscoring the home’s international partnerships.

The home’s meeting opened with the South African National Anthem and a prayer by Dr Palesa Phalafala. Board chairperson Bophelo Moyaha presented the adoption of the 2024 AGM minutes and reflected on the year’s progress, followed by the Social Work Report from manager Illidio Dongua.

Founder and CEO Anna Mojapelo delivered an insightful CEO’s Report, highlighting key achievements and challenges, complemented by a touching video presentation featuring alumna Uriel Mashego, among others.

The afternoon session shifted focus to the Orange Babies meeting, which opened with the school song O Flame of Light and another prayer by Phalafala.

In her chairperson’s report, Mojapelo highlighted the preschool’s success amid national early childhood challenges, citing the Thrive by Five Index, which shows that 65% of South African children in early learning programmes struggle to thrive by age five.

“Orange Babies Montessori’s nurturing environment and Montessori approach have enabled our learners to read, write, and do basic maths by age six,” said Mojapelo. “When we nurture a child’s environment, we nurture their destiny. Education begins with love, and when love meets structure, greatness follows.”

Principal Linah Ramonyai emphasised the need to raise awareness about Montessori education and early literacy. Moetapele Phalafala presented the financial report on behalf of treasurer Paul Muduma, followed by Aurora Kwakwadi, who led the confirmation of the board and auditors.

The AGM concluded with a vote of thanks by Hopkins Kaira, who expressed appreciation to all partners, supporters, and staff for their continued dedication.
