Handheld radios to help improve Sector 3 Crime Forum communication

An anonymous donor has donated money for the Sector 3 Crime Forum, which they used to buy handheld radios.

The Midrand Sector 3 Crime Forum has received undisclosed monetary donations, which they used to procure five handheld radios, also known as walkie-talkies.

Speaking to the paper on November 15, the sector executive, consisting of secretary Andrew Paterson, public relations officer Michael Goh, and patrol coordinator Otto Ramokoka, thanked the donor, who opted to remain anonymous.

The donations came after the sector had requested funding for the radios.

Paterson said the quality of these handheld radios will improve communication among patrollers during patrolling sessions.

“They are portable radios that with a decent range for communication. They are waterproof as compared to the previous ones, which were not waterproof and were not great in the rain, leading to some miscommunication due to buttons jamming,” said Paterson.

He said the forum’s executive was thankful to the donor.

Paterson urges community members to donate, and not necessarily money, but anything of valuable assets, such as traffic cones, bulletproof vests, and torches for night patrolling.
