JMPD arrests suspect driving stolen vehicle on N1 in Midrand
A suspicious driver on the N1 set off alarm bells for JMPD officers, and their instincts paid off when checks revealed the vehicle had been stolen and partially stripped.
Johannesburg Metropolitan Police Department (JMPD) officers have arrested a suspect for possession of a stolen vehicle following a routine highway patrol in Midrand.
The arrest took place on December 12 while officers were patrolling along the N1 North. During the patrol, they noticed a white Toyota Land Cruiser being driven recklessly, prompting them to stop the vehicle for inspection.
JMPD spokesperson Superintendent Xolani Fihla said officers immediately became suspicious upon closer examination.
“The vehicle was partially stripped, and they [officers] also realised that the number plate and disc did not match,” said Fihla.

Further checks conducted on the eNaTIS system confirmed that the vehicle had been reported stolen in a case registered in the Midlands.
According to Fihla, the driver told officers that he had been paid R3 000 by another man to transport the vehicle from Diepkloof to Pretoria.
The suspect was subsequently arrested for possession of a stolen motor vehicle and detained at the Midrand Police Station, where further investigations are underway.
