Young star from Midrand chess scores perfect win at Summer Heat Tournament
Midrand Chess Club continues to produce young stars, with rising talent Khotso Ntseare delivering a flawless performance at the Mzansi Chess Academy Summer Heat Tournament.
Three months into the year, and Midrand Chess Club players are already making giant impacts, consistently bringing home accolades from various competitions.
Among the club’s standout young talent is seven-year-old Khotso Ntseare, who recently secured first place in the U8 section of the Mzansi Chess Academy Summer Heat Tournament with a flawless score.
Hosted by Mzansi Chess Academy, the five-round, Swiss-rated tournament took place at Bryanston Parallel Medium School on March 21. The young chess player delivered an impressive performance, achieving a perfect score of five out of five.

What differentiates Khotso is his profound ability to grasp complex chess concepts at a young age, while maintaining a steady composure in competitive environments. His perfect score at the tournament showcased not only his talent but also his focus and confidence under pressure.

Khotso joined the Midrand club at the beginning of last year and has rapidly demonstrated exceptional progress. His impressive improvement stems from steadfast commitment, discipline, and a deepening understanding of chess.
The club’s coach, Kgosimang Molefe, emphasised that Khotso’s achievement marks a proud moment for both the player and the club. “This win illustrates that, with the right coaching and opportunities, young players can excel at a high level. For Khotso, it serves as a substantial boost in confidence and a clear indicator of his considerable potential in future competitions. For Midrand Chess Club, it highlights the effectiveness of our development initiatives and reinforces our reputation for fostering strong, young players.”

Molefe highlighted Khotso’s strengths as a competitor, including sharp tactical awareness, consistent focus during games, and the confidence to thrive under pressure, along with an evolving ability to capitalise on winning positions.

He also acknowledged the crucial support from Khotso’s family. “Their unwavering encouragement and commitment to attending training sessions nearly every Saturday, as well as participating in local tournaments, have established a robust foundation for his development.”
Molefe added that Khotso is just one of many Midrand Chess Club players who have excelled in recent months. “Numerous children have won or landed in the top three over the past three months. While I focused on Gauteng sports reporting, outreach to sponsors, organising the club calendar, and setting objectives, the children took it upon themselves to represent the club admirably.”
The club has resumed online classes, ensuring young players maintain consistency in their training and growth.
