Noordwyk Parkrun celebrates four years of steps and smiles

What started as a weekly run has grown into a thriving community as participants celebrate four years of the beloved Noordwyk Parkrun.

Runners and community members celebrated the fourth birthday of the Noordwyk Parkrun in style on March 28.

The purpose of the run was to unite the community and fitness enthusiasts rather than to compete.

Starting with only 50 members and now reaching 300, the parkrun is commemorating its growth and going stronger.

Noordwyk parkrunner and volunteer, Kenny Govender, commented on what this birthday celebration means to him.

“I’m very excited to be celebrating our fourth birthday. I mean, after four years, the number of people joining our parkrun has increased from only 50 members to about 300, so that shows that we are on the right track, and today was just a celebration of all those things.”

257 walkers and runners, along with their dogs and small children, participated in the parkrun’s most-anticipated run.

Most participants did two laps, while some did one, but everyone was made to feel like a winner with a cake cutting at the end of the run.

69-year-old Noordwyk park runner, Otto Ramokoka, expressed how much the parkrun helps him and benefits the community as a whole.

“Being a member of the parkrun has helped me do much. I was once a marathon runner, and I had to stop because I got injured, and the doctor instructed me to stop. But having the parkrun helps because when I just want to walk and not run, it allows me to do so.”

“Another thing the parkrun does is help clean our park, and that is so important for our community,” Ramokoka concluded.
